Medically Supervised Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program Expands To Arizona
April
5, 2007 - Burke, Va.
Burke, Va. / April 5, 2007 - Serotonin-Plus, Inc., the company known in the Washington, D.C. area for developing a comprehensive medically supervised weight loss program using a patented product and medically-approved approach to helping people shrink their waistlines, is expanding into the desert southwest city of North Scottsdale, Ariz.
"Scottsdale presents a highly educated professional population that appreciates 'natural' approaches to health maintenance," says Dr. Robert Posner, M.D. a board-certified internist and leading researcher in the field of neurotransmitter problems who founded the weight loss centers five years ago.
The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Centers offer the largest medically supervised weight loss program in the Washington, D.C. area. The Centers are known for their immediate and proven results. The program uses a unique patented oral serotonin supplement that acts as a natural appetite suppressant. It also significantly reduces carbohydrate cravings and binge eating, increases metabolism, balances mood and enhances energy.
Low levels of serotonin have been associated with mood swings, weight gain, binge eating, depression, low energy, anger and aggression.
"We have a comprehensive medically supervised weight loss program with fantastic results that works to boost the metabolism and helps create a lifestyle change," says Dr. Posner. "We are able to help people who want to lose 10 pounds to over 300 pounds.
The average weight loss is 35 pounds in 12 weeks.
The North Scottsdale location is the first Serotonin-Plus weight loss center to open outside the D.C. metro area. The company plans to open more centers around the country.
"We think our medically supervised program will be well-received in the area," says Dr. Posner. "The program provides a safe, effective way to lose weight and provides a solution and real hope to those who think they can't lose weight or have not been able to lose weight in the past."
"With so many diet scams in the market today, consumers need to be cautious. We are proud to say that our program has been extremely successful for thousands and thousands of people of all ages and gender," Dr. Posner says.
About Robert Posner, M.D.: Robert Posner, M.D., a board-certified internist and leading researcher in the field of neurotransmitter problems, is the founder of The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Centers. Dr. Posner has been in private practice in the Northern Virginia area for 18 years. Book Tells Why and How Serotonin Formula Accelerates
Weight Loss–
Area
Physician Successfully Targets Chemical Problems Hampering Patient
Achievement
April
15, 2004 - Washington,
DC
Dieting
is not easy, and for many people it is impossible. To overcome weight loss hurdles,
Robert Posner, M.D., an area, board-certified internist and leading
researcher in the field of neurotransmitter problems sought and identified a
solution. Posner recently launched his S-P System™ diet plan nationwide.
It is based on the medically supervised Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program™ which
he designed, that combines a reduced-calorie diet, exercise regime and his unique
supplement Serotonin Formula™.
In the new edition of his book Doctor, I Have a Chemical Imbalance; The Serotonin
Story, Posner describes the body’s unique chemical composition and
how serotonin imbalance conditions cause depression, low energy levels and eating
disorders and hamper weight loss efforts. He relates how his own studies led
to development of Serotonin Formula, a supplement that naturally increases serotonin
levels to restore balance in people suffering from deficiency related problems
and also helps to suppress appetite for those needing to diet.
“ My goal is to give the reader of this book a broader understanding of
both over-the-counter supplements and prescription medications aimed at addressing
chemical imbalances and the diseases they can cause. Doctors and patients who
have a basic working knowledge about prescriptions and alternative therapies
for certain clinical conditions can make better-informed decisions and obtain
more successful treatment,” Dr. Posner said.
He initially developed his weight loss program to help patients improve their
health, reduce their risk of obesity-related diseases, and feel better about
themselves. Unlike many other other popular diets, the S-P System requires exercise,
a reasoned approach to reducing calories and modified behavior patterns, plus
the Serotonin Formula supplement. His success rate with this program has outpaced
the weight loss of either Atkins or South Beach diets.
Posner’s book takes the reader through the analysis that led to his diet
plan. He considers internal medicine doctors the “Sherlock Holmes” of
the medical community, noting that patients offer a variety of symptoms and the
physician is challenged to consider patient history, perform a thorough physical
exam, and recommend tests and analytical procedures to determine diagnosis and
treatment. He points out the importance of doctors understanding how chemicals
interact in the body since imbalances can cause clinical symptoms that otherwise
might not be identified, and he details the role of body chemistry in the physical
and emotional well being of men and women.
Posner also discusses neurotransmitters or “brain chemicals” and
analyzes production of serotonin inside the brain and the various natural mechanisms
that lead to increasing or decreasing levels of this important chemical as well
as those caused by medications. Posner notes that among the diseases that can
stem from serotonin imbalance are depression, migraine headaches, premenstrual
syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and eating disorders.
Posner reviews selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac,
Zoloft and Paxil and some non-traditional and homeopathic approaches to serotonin
deficiency clinical conditions. Long concerned about adverse side effects from
prescribed medication, Poser said he wanted to create a more direct, natural
way of increasing serotonin levels. He did this by developing Serotonin Formula,
his patented, natural supplement that combines serotonin with anti-oxidants and
vitamins, aiding people suffering from related clinical problems and those having
difficulty in losing weight. Posner said Serotonin Formula is not an SSRI, but a
pure and natural product that works to normalize/increase serotonin levels in
the brain. It bathes all receptors in the brain with serotonin, decreasing appetite
and significantly reducing carbohydrate cravings, while enhancing mood.
Human studies have shown no negative side effects as in SSRIs, which can actually
induce weight gain and bring on a multitude of health problems. People taking
Serotonin Formula report feeling uplifted and energized by the product, which is
a safe alternative to fad dieting, focusing on behavior change to allow for permanent
weight gain. The supplement and diet plan together offer a weight loss program
with long-term positive results free from concerns about ephedra and other dangerous
compounds.

S-P
System Brings New Year’s Promise Of New Look for Washington
and America
January
6,
2004 - Washington,
DC
To combat the
growing obesity epidemic in the United States and to fight the perennial
holiday weight gain, a Washington-area physician
today launched nationally the S-P System™, based on the medically
supervised Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program™ he designed,
which combines a reduced-calories diet, exercise regime, and his
unique serotonin supplement, Serotonin Formula™.
Internal medicine specialist Robert Posner, M.D., who operates weight
loss centers in Burke, VA, and Bethesda, MD, initially developed
his weight loss program to help his patients improve their health,
reduce their risk of obesity-related diseases, and feel better about
themselves. Unlike some of the other popular diets today, the S-P
System requires exercise, plus a reasoned approach to reducing calories,
and modified behavior patterns, plus the Serotonin Formula™ supplement.
Posner’s system results in higher weight loss than either Atkins
or South Beach. An American Heart Association (AHA) study showed
that people following the South Beach Diet lost an average of 12
pounds over 10 weeks while those on an AHA weight loss program shed
an average of 6 pounds. A 12-week study by the University of Illinois
found that Atkins dieters lost an average of 14 pounds. This compares
with Posner’s findings of 22 pounds lost on the S-P System
over a 12-week period.
“
To ensure the products’ reliability and safety, Serotonin Formula™,
a natural-based supplement that restores chemical balance, reduces
carbohydrate cravings, and mildly suppresses the appetite, has been
subjected to human studies that most supplements never undergo and
are not required to meet,” Posner said.
From January to April 2002, Posner funded a double-blind, controlled, cross-over
human clinical study. During the first six weeks, half of the study group received
a placebo and half received Posner’s serotonin supplement. The next six
weeks, each group received the opposite treatment. Initial results showed that
Serotonin Formula™ produced statistically significant weight loss, with a
weekly average of 1.3 pounds and virtually no negative side effects. To date,
study participants have remained within four pounds of their weight goal during
the 20 months since the study was completed.
Earlier, Posner conducted an “open label” eight-week human clinical
study using the Serotonin Formula™. The average weight loss was 1.6 pounds
per week, within the range of what the National Institutes of Health recommends
as
being medically safe. The volunteers also reported an improvement in their general
quality of life. In addition, animal toxicology studies have proven the supplement
to be safe.
Under Posner’s supervision, since October 2002, more than 850 Washington-area
residents have participated in the medically supervised weight loss program,
which included an FDA-approved appetite suppressant, phentermine, not part of
the S-P System, and have lost an average of 35 pounds over 12 weeks.
S-P System participants receive a 12-week supply of the Serotonin Formula™,
diet transitional plan, informational CD with diet and exercise guidance, and
online
resources to locate a trainer who can develop a personalized exercise program.
Average weight loss is approximately 20-25 pounds over a 12-week period.
“
My patients, many of whom failed on other weight reduction programs, find that
the Serotonin-Plus System produces real results,” Posner said. “It
works for those who followed the diet, exercise regularly, and take the Serotonin
Formula™.”
A leading researcher in the field of neurotransmitter imbalance, Posner discovered
Serotonin Formula™ and obtained a patent on it in 2000. A patent is pending
on his Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program™.

Doctor Publishes Book Challenging the Medical Establishment –
June
21, 2002 - Book
Signing
A doctor of internal medicine who practices in Burke, Robert Posner,
will hold a signing on Friday, June 21 for a new book that challenges the
medical establishment by offering useful information that enables readers
to choose between traditional and “alternative” treatments
for wide-spread problems such as anxiety, weight problems, and depression
often
caused by chemical imbalances in the brain.
The signing will be held from five p.m. to seven p.m. at Dr. Posner’s
office, Potomac Internal Medicine, Associates, at 9289
Old Keene Mill Road, Burke, VA (corner of Old Keene Mill and Shiplett)
and features Dr. Posner’s
new comprehensive guide to a wide range of treatments for illnesses such
as depression. The event will feature food, refreshments, and live entertainment.
Dr. Posner’s book is the first treatment guide aimed at readers who have
no medical training -- in effect, it’s a Physician’s Desk Reference
for the average person.
The reference work, “Doctor, I Have Chemical Imbalance (The Serotonin Story),” explains
both the mainstream medical approach to treating a number of widespread problems
and the “naturopathic” approach that is largely ignored by the
medical establishment.
The book was written to help people who suffer from depression, anxiety, stress,
weight problems, binge eating, migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, or other
conditions related to chemical imbalances in the brain, Dr. Posner explains.
The guidebook, Dr. Posner adds, provides readers with a clear understanding
of the relative risks and benefits of prescription medicines such as Prozac
along
with alternative treatments such as St. John’s Wort.
As a practicing internal medicine specialist for the past 20 years, Dr. Posner
has found that some medical conditions such as depression are “viewed negatively
by public perception which tends to discourage a person from receiving the help
for their medical problem. One reason for writing this book is to help people
achieve a better understanding of the treatment options available to them when
they have a chemical imbalance.” Meanwhile, at any given time more than
12 million Americans are suffering from depression, but less than half of them
are getting treatment.
Dr. Posner also explains how many prescription medications such as Prozac and
Zoloft work only indirectly to raise a person’s level of serotonin, and
those drugs can have side effects. But getting enough serotonin is important
because inadequate serotonin levels in the brain often cause depression and
related problems such as being overweight.
While explaining that the traditional prescription medications are often necessary,
the book also points out the benefits of avoiding prescription drugs when possible.
It goes on to explain the benefits of taking the first over-the-counter supplement
that raises serotonin levels, Serotab, which was developed by Dr. Posner.
He developed the supplement, Dr. Posner says, because over the years he was
frustrated to observe that “there was no way to provide patients with
actual serotonin treatments to correct their chemical imbalance, and there
was nothing to help
those who did not seek medical help.”
Dr. Posner has practiced in Burke since 1988, and serves and president and CEO
of Potomac Internal Medicine Associates.

Doctor Pens Medical Treatment Guide for Non-Physicians –
June
11, 2002 - Burke,
Virginia
ARobert
Posner, a doctor of internal medicine who practices in Burke, has written the
first comprehensive guide to the range of treatments available for widespread
conditions such as depression and weight problems that are often caused by brain
chemical imbalances. A throwback to the days of medicine before HMOs, Dr. Posner
makes house calls and has donated his time and effort to help organizations such
as the Survivors Fund of the National Capital Area and the Hospice of Northern
Virginia. This book is an outgrowth of his philosophy of practicing medicine.
As a practical matter, this reference book can serve as a Physician’s Desk
Reference for persons who do not have medical training, meaning persons suffering
from chemical imbalances can now have reliable information about which treatments
to choose.
In writing the book, Dr. Posner challenges many medical practitioners who offer
patients only prescription drugs that have potentially serious side effects --
and never inform them of “natural” treatment options.
The guide for the lay person, “Doctor, I Have Chemical Imbalance (The Serotonin
Story),” is the first book to explain both the mainstream medical approach
to treating a number of illnesses and the alternative, or “naturopathic,” approach
traditionally shunned by the nation’s medical establishment.
The guide was written to help people who suffer from depression, anxiety, stress,
weight problems, binge eating, migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, or other
conditions related to chemical imbalances in the brain, Dr. Posner explains.
The reference work, Dr. Posner adds, provides readers with a clear understanding
of the relative risks and befits of prescription medicines such as Prozac along
with alternative treatments such as St. John’s Wort.
As a practicing internal medicine specialist for the past 20 years, Dr. Posner
has found that some medical conditions such as depression are “viewed negatively
by public perception which tends to discourage a person from receiving the help
for their medical problem. One reason for writing this book is to help people
achieve a better understanding of the treatment options available to them when
they have a chemical imbalance.”
The reference guide also uses illustrations and figures to educate the reader
about how different medications and over-the-counter supplements work on brain
chemicals. In addition, the guide explains the various over-the-counter supplements
that have been used to promote weight loss.
Dr. Posner also explains how many prescription medications such as Prozac and
Zoloft work only indirectly to raise the levels of serotonin in the brain and
that those drugs may have undesirable side effects. However, maintaining an adequate
level of serotonin is important because depression and other medical problems
such as obesity are often caused by inadequate serotonin levels in the brain.
Dr. Posner notes that at any given time, more than 12 million Americans are suffering
from depression, but less than one-half of those people are receiving treatment.
The book also points out the benefits of using the first over-the-counter dietary
supplement that directly raises serotonin levels, Serotab, which was developed
by Dr. Posner.
He developed Serotab, Dr. Posner says, because over the years he was frustrated
to observe that “there was no way to provide patients with actual serotonin
treatments to correct their chemical imbalance, and there was nothing to help
those who did not seek any medical help.”
Dr. Posner has practiced in Burke since 1988, and serves and president and CEO
of Potomac Internal Medicine Associates.
