The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Blog: Blame

Republicans blame Democrats for the horrendous economy, Democrats blame Republicans for the Bush-era policies that they purport caused all of this mess, public watchdog groups blame lobbyists and special influence groups for swaying our elected officials, I blame the owners of the Mets for playing games with Bernie Madoff and losing so much money that they cannot afford a decent team, and the “blame game” goers on and on and on. Okay, so here goes: Who is to “blame” about the obesity epidemic in America? Is it medical schools for not teaching students enough about preventative medicine? Is it insurance companies for not covering weight loss programs? Is it corporate America for selling us lots of unhealthy foods and playing mind games with our children through the use of toys and games that accompany their meals? Or, should we look at ourselves in the mirror and realize that at the end of the day, we all are responsible for the foods we eat, the drinks we drink and the exercise (or lack thereof) that we do? Yes, I am asking all of us to take a good part of the “blame” and because we have zero control of the extraneous factors mentioned above (such as insurance companies) and can only control the things we have the power over, then do something about it. Accept a good part of the “blame” and roll up your sleeves, follow the SP dietary plan that is in front of you and take yourself out of the “blame equation”.

I accept all the blame but I do wonder if my prior diet which was relatively heavy on pasta and whole grains was ever the right approach. Granted, I always ate too much of them and I do continue to eat them now, but consume at a lower rate. I feel better when I eat less of them yet healthy East Asians have based their diet on rice for thousands of years. I am confused why it has worked for them but glad I now have a better understanding of what works for me.
Thanks for the comment Jim. I believe East Asians eat lots more fish than we do here. Moreover, there is a genetic component to weight issues as well.
