The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Blog: “Do-Over”

As a kid on the streets of New York City (wow, this self-embellishing story sounds like the autobiography of a tough guy from New York who despite adversity, made good, yada yada) when someone got up to bat in stickball and a car interrupted the play or something happened to disrupt the at-bat, the affected kid would yell “Do-Over” .  This implied that he got another chance to try again.  In golf, I believe the word is “taking a mulligan”, meaning you get to erase what just happened and take the shot again, without the previous one counting.  Health, however, often does not allow for “do-overs”.  We have that one body of ours and what we do with it becomes our health destiny.  A catastrophic heart attack, cancer diagnosis or other life-altering event causes the affected person to wish for a “do-over” but this is not the same as the stickball game or golf  match.  Losing weight will have you asking for less “do-overs”., and in fact, your successful efforts may actually give you the “do-over” you want, both personally, health-wise and professionally.
