The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Blog: Irony
Yesterday I attended a Diabetes Prevention Summit at GWU and there were some of the leading experts in diabetes present. The statistics and epidemiology of the growing trend of pre diabetes and diabetes are incredibly worrisome. What is the irony? At the check in area , the “continental breakfast” consisted of croissants, cream cheese, bagels, muffins, pastries and fruit. There was pretty much zero protein choices there. How difficult is it to offer up some hard boiled eggs, 80 calorie yogurts etc? I believe all of you that attend conferences all over see the same thing over and over…meals and break snacks at these meetings are all the same…high carbs. Even at a diabetes prevention meeting! This is one of the main reasons why America is having the obesity and diabetes crisis: Collectively, we all sabotage each other. This must stop. If all that is present are carbs your choices are to forego a meal or give in. It does not have to be this way and convention planners need to be schooled in this. By the way, of all the important things to do to prevent diabetes, first and foremost: weight loss.

I have been attending conferences such as these for years, and I too am always struck by the poor choices offered. What I ALWAYS do is submit feedback to the conference planners about the poor food choices and make suggestions for healthier ones. I have seen a difference in the offerings! The fact that you were at a Diabetes Prevention Summit and saw this is astounding!
