The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Blog: “Sugar Free”

There are some food items that make you think you are really eating something “healthy” and compatible with your weight loss efforts. Have you ever been to a buffet restaurant, wandered to the dessert bar and see a section labelled “sugar free” above a bunch of cake slices? Too good to be true? These items are by no means low-caloric and the “fat” content may be very high. ”Sugar free” gum usually means no calories so those are great, but the “sugar free” cakes have loads of calories. When at the store, it is easy to check labels informing you of the caloric and fat content but when at a restaurant, this nutritional information is not available. Keep your antenna up and beware of “what sounds too good to be true…”

If I know that I’m going to eat out, I try to remember to look up the restaurant on the internet beforehand. Many restaurants now have nutritional information online. I find that it helps me make better choices once I actually get to the restaurant.
