The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Blog: The Cookie Diet

I performed a consultation about the SP program to a gentleman who carted in a bag to show me what he was doing for weight loss.  The bag had a picture of a doctor with a white coat on, and the bag contained something called ‘The Cookie Diet”.  Have you heard of this before?  Presumably, you substitute these cookies for meals and then keep a portion controlled situation for your other meals.  The person was telling me that when you join “The Cookie Diet” you are obligated to buy hundreds of dollars of inventory from the doctor who is selling this.  This is EXACTLY why “weight loss doctors” are viewed suspiciously by other physicians and many people.  ”Eat cookies and lose weight!!!”  Corporate America and a number of physicians are involved with the weight loss arena strictly for the $$$ and any physician involved with the “Cookie Diet” must have their motives questioned.  To help your patients lose weight, I strongly believe you have to help with a lifestyle change and provide some sort of dietary plan based on eating a different admixture of the food groups, skewing this towards higher protein and vegetables, less fruits and carbs.   To make your patients (and sell to them) “cookies” is selling them a dubious method of weight loss.  May as well sell them Girl Scout cookies too, because at least you will make some money for a good cause as opposed to lining the pockets of the doctor/company that invented this hype.
