Best Vacation Spots?

Summer vacations are embraced by all of us…a chance to escape from the day-to-day routinized activities and have lots more fun and relaxation.  One of the challenges to weight control efforts are vacations due to the change in food and alcohol intake that usually accompanies these trips.

Aside from “vacationing” away from the stress/boredom/high intensity aspects of our daily lives, the psychological concept of “vacationing” away from the ardor of following a strict dietary plan is also in play.  Face it…for all of us, we look forward to “letting go” on our vacations, and eating/drinking is part of that mindset.

Certain vacation spots will provide an almost 100% chance of derailing your weight control efforts.  For example, any “All You Can Eat And Drink” scenarios such as cruise ships and all-inclusive resorts will entice all of us to “get our monies’ worth” by eating and drinking lots.  Scheduling a trip to “wine country” and taking a bunch of winery tours will similarly boost the chances of lots of weight gain.

However, vacations that include lots of walking/hiking/biking will provide a better chance of staying true to your weight control goals.  Beach trips that involve lots of activities, U.S. Park visits, European trips with lots of touring…these type of vacations provide a better opportunity to keep those weight control goals in sight.

If you are still deciding what to do/where to go for you/your family vacation, keep in mind that you can still plan a very fun time in venues/places that will be less challenging for your long-term goal to be healthy/happy to enjoy many more vacations.
