Does Consistency Play a Role in Weight Control?

I throw lots of sports analogies out there, and here is yet another one: 

One of the things that separates great sports teams from mediocre ones or a great individual athlete from an average one is “consistency”. 

When you look at a great sports team such as the New England Patriots, that always find their way deep into the playoffs or a great tennis player such as Rafael Nadar, what you will notice is an amazing amount of consistency.  Rarely do you see that type of team or athlete have “off” days.  Yes, they may lose a game or a match, but those are rare and what you almost always see is consistent greatness.

Now, back to the weight control arena and the issue of “consistency”. 

There are many people with chronic weight control issues that can lose lots of weight, then gain it back, focus once again on losing, and the cycle repeats itself over and over…the proverbial “Yo-Yo Dieting”.  

During the weight loss phases, the person can be very consistent in following the necessary high protein/low carb/low alcohol approach, but conversely, when the person falls out of that mode, there is a consistent higher carb/lower protein dietary plan.

Try as best you can to find consistency in your approach to long term weight control.  Every day, remind yourself of the reasons why it is so important for you to control the weight and then consistently follow the game plan needed to achieve and maintain the needed weight goals.  

There are many sports teams and individual athletes that separate themselves by being so consistent.  Separate yourself from the 70% of Americans that cannot.
