Now that the calendar has flipped to a completely new year, this sort of provides us all with a chance at starting out anew with resolutions to live a healthier life style going forward. I used the term “sort of” because the quest to become healthier and happier via effective weight control should, of course, be a year-round priority, not requiring a “start date” coinciding with the flip of a calendar page.
However, gyms, personal trainers and weight control programs such as ours almost always see a large spike of activity after the new year is reached. There are several reasons for this: 1- many people have gained a considerable amount of weight between Halloween and New Years and 2- New Years provide us all with a self-evaluation as to what went “right” and what went “wrong” the previous year, and we plot out the steps we will take to correct things in the coming year.
The “usual”: People start out with lots of motivation and enthusiasm, but over the ensuing weeks/months, a waning of all of that positivity starts setting in: less visits to the gym, more “cheat days” on a dietary plan, and then, ultimately, whatever progress was made starts reversing course.
I know I have repeated this statement over and over, but here it goes again: Long-term weight control requires SUPPORT. I urge you to take advantage of our FREE monthly body scan offer if you live near our office. Additionally, we are offering very soon a very affordable twice a month telemedicine video counseling sessions that will connect you with your own SP counselor to help you stay committed and focused during your long-term quest.
Let’s all try to not fall into that cycle of “New Years Resolution” to control weight and then that falls by the wayside. We are here for you to help!
