There is a journey that needs to be taken for anyone seeking to lose a substantial amount of weight and keeping that weight off. This journey is not an easy one and along the way there will be a number of situations, people and events that will try very hard to knock you off course. Yesterday, the SP Team and I dressed for Halloween, and this was my inspiration for this blog based on analogies to the movie that all of us remember as kids. So here goes…

Let’s say Dorothy had a significant weight control problem and wanted to lose that weight and keep it off, but she didn’t know how. She was told there was a “Magic” solution to solving this problem and she set out her journey to find this. Well, her colleagues: the Tin Man needed a heart that represents the strength of character to be successful on the journey. The Straw Man wanted a brain to allow the intellectual part to override the instinctual aspects of behavior that make us reach for derailing food and drink sources. The Cowardly Lion? What was needed was courage to embark on the journey to long term weight control knowing it was going to be very difficult. And Dorothy? When she got to the “Wizard” she was made to realize that there was no real “magic” solution to long term weight control and she had to rely on herself to summon the strength to make this happen.

So my friends, on the journey down the Yellow Brick Road for long term weight control, do not be lulled into thinking there are “magic” solutions, maintain the fortitude, allow the intellectual part of your brain to make the right decisions and have the courage to follow through on your journey to better health and happiness via long term weight control.
