Pancakes and Unlimited Fries?

As soon as I went on the internet this morning a pop-up advertisement hit my screen:  International House of Pancakes had a display ad promoting “Pancakes and All You Can Eat Fries” for $6.99.  There was an asterisk next to the pancakes and this was to alert people that they were actually offering up a burger and the unlimited fries.  They were using their “core” product (pancakes) as sort of a joke to line up the special deal they were advertising.

Human nature dictates lots of our actions and when it comes to eating, this most certainly applies.  The concept of “unlimited” and “all you can eat” are very appealing to our human nature side.  Why?  Well, maybe instinctually, this goes back to the primitive days when our ancestors did not know when the next ‘kill” may be, so when food was abundant, it made sense to load up on this as much as possible.  Fast forwarding to the more intellectual human, the concept of paying one price and being able to avail yourself of unlimited food is more appealing than paying more each time you want to increase consumption.

So, several points here:  First- Do NOT set yourself up for derailing food experiences by going to restaurants where the choices for “healthy” options are limited (sorry…IHOP isn’t exactly the best choice) and Second:  Do NOT be coerced into allowing the human nature/instinctual part of our brains to opt for “All You Can Eat” scenarios.

Corporate America loves to manipulate our behaviors to increase their financial bottom lines.  During your long-term weight control journey, try hard to not allow this to happen.
