Pop Those Ice Pops?

The summer temperatures are now occurring daily and unlike the cold, dark winter, a welcome snack could be an ice pop.  Kids tend to love these “treats”, and it is always fun for me to watch the young ones excitedly pick what colors/flavors they want and the eating of this results in the color of the pop now adorning the facial skin around the mouth.

For adults, ice pops could serve as a refreshing snack or dessert. So, how much “damage” to your weight control is incurred by eating these treats?  The sugar containing ice pops contain around 45 calories, all of which are carbs and no fat.  The “sugar free” pops average around 15 calories a pop and once again, no fat; only carbs.

So, based on these nutritional facts, it seems that ice pops wreak very little-no damage to your weight control success.  The seasonality and fun of joining your kids in eating these snacks of yore add up to a green sign, “thumbs-up” from your doctor.  Go ahead and pop a pop or two a day.  But, if you get one of those double ones on the two sticks, make sure that when the pop starts melting and those sticks separate, you are not wearing a nice outfit that will get stained from the falling ice.  Fun!
