To Dream The Impossible Dream?

Okay, so this entry was inspired by a show we saw Saturday evening at the Lorton Arts Center. One of our patients is starring in a production of Man of LaMancha, the very famous (an old) Broadway musical. (The show was GREAT, the venue small and intimate and I highly recommend this to everyone!!!) The show is based on the book, Don Quixote, authored by Miguel Cervantes, in the very early 1600’s. The most famous song from that show is “To Dream The Impossible Dream”. Here are a few of the lyrics:

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

Well, not to get too overly dramatic here, but after the show I started thinking about the inspirational messages contained in the story and in his song in particular. We all, in our lives, have dreamed of accomplishing things that may seem too difficult to attain. At some point after mustering all of our energy and efforts, when something appears to difficult, we eventually “give up”. That quest became an impossible dream.

Sorry, but once again this is a weight control blog, so I do need to focus on this: During your quest for a much healthier and happier weight, this will, at times, seem like a impossible dream. You try hard for awhile, see some results, then something happens that takes away your focus, weight goes back on and after a number of these cycles, the “give up” mentality occurs.

You CAN succeed in your efforts, and it is important to understand that along the journey you will be knocked off course a number of times. That is okay. Just pick yourself up, get back on the journey and “fight the unbeatable foe”. Be inspired by Don Quixote.  Watch the You Tube video here :   Be inspired by Don Quixote.
